You know, that's a question that would've been a lot easier to answer a few months ago. Kind of funny to say that, considering even a few months ago my life wasn't exactly a normal one. But compared to now? Yeah. Easy. A few months ago I was just Kennedy James(*), older daughter of a New York nouveau-riche family with a history of being almost kicked out of boarding schools and the dubious distinction – well, if you asked my dad and stepmom, anyway – of having been an out of the closet lesbian since I was in elementary school. Oh yeah, and on the side I was training to be a Slayer in case I ever got Chosen. Not that weird, right? Except now I am a Slayer. I have been Chosen. And here's where the weird part comes in, at least if you're in the know on the whole Slayer mythology thing: I'm not the only one. I'm not even one of two. I'm one of God only knows how many, all over the world. A few months ago I might have been kind of disappointed by that. I expected to be disappointed by that. But I'm not . . . I like it. It's weird, isn't it? I always liked being the different one, but now I kind of love knowing that I've got somewhere that I fit in. Maybe it's kind of an oxymoron to talk about a group of misfits, but that's what we are. And then there's Willow, of course. Best thing about being here. Better than the power. I don't think everybody approves of the way I barged into her life, but hey, that's just me. That's the way I've always been. I see what I want, and I go after it. I think Faith approves, which may be why Buffy's still not so hot on the idea. But hey, in the end it was Willow's choice. See me not arguing? So that's who I am now. Spoiled rich kid with supernatural speed and strength, an amazing girlfriend, and the power to make my own destiny. It's a pretty full portfolio. And you know what?
